Another Buster Keaton stunt heavy film. He’s definitely been perfecting his shtick over and over again throughout the years. And it is most notable in one specific moment of this film. The stunt of a building facade falling directly over him and just missing him. Apparently Buster Keaton actually could have been crushed to death by this monstrous building facade that he was supposed to fit right through and not be hit. Well remarkably it worked and it shows you how back in the 1920's the line between fake movie magic and real danger was very thin. That's what made these guys so impressive was the fact that they did their own stunts and they did them in reality not in a Green screen environment. And you see it onscreen. As a viewer your whole body tenses up when he survives that stunt because it's crystal clear that that was not a drill. It was very very real.
This movie puts a cap on Keaton's career. It's a Big finale for him as Chaplin will go on to dominate the 1930's with sound affecting audiences more so than visual gags.
