#59 - Dracula (1931)

July 23, 2018

This movie exists in the same universe as Frankenstein. Again it seeks to serve as escapist cinema, and absolutely helped define the horror genre for decades to come. This movie succeeds in masking the horrors of the human condition within layer upon layer of Make Up, special effects and costuming. It is based on a great classic story that has more human touches to it than this movie depicts. The film really digs into showing off the sets, the costumes, the props, and stage blood to creep out the audience and allow them escape into a nightmare fantasy for a few hours.
