A Great Bogart film. The story is set in WW2, again part of Hollywood propaganda against the enemy. This feels very similar to Casablanca but set in Martinique. In fact the structure of girl walks into bar, meets Bogart, enters his life in a way that forces him to choose an allegiance with a competing faction in WW2 and then having to help that faction and help the girl get away is almost entirely identical to Casablanca. However, this time Bogart leaves too. The ending isn’t as dark as Casablanca, although in that ending as well Bogie leaves town. You definitely see the anti-hero theme repeating and growing.
