This is Eisenstein’s first film to appear in this list. You see the power of film as propaganda, a use that will be furthered later on and become synonymous with film throughout history. Obviously he advanced montage style editing techniques and bold angles that emphasized lines and the power of the subjects being filmed.
One has to consider the fact that it was propaganda commissioned by the Soviet film board. The use of editing for creating meaning really shows up here and had to be signed off on by the highest levels of the party.
