#195 - Monsieur Verdoux (1947)

August 25, 2018

Chaplin’s least funny movie is meant to be sociopolitical in nature but it’s weird because the majority of the timing seems perfect for farce or comedy and not satire or drama. With this film you can tell he is an artist stuck in the 30’s and the character of the tramp he created for himself. It seems there’s no getting out of that mindset for him. His whole action and body movement suggest that he's making a movie starring The Tramp when that is not the case with this film.

So honestly there's not much to this movie apart from Chaplin being out of touch with the times.
